With summer practically here, it’s time to prepare for the warm weather and months of festivities. Below are my favorite summer must haves that help me make the most of my favorite time of year. And a few that are on my wish list!
Sunscreen (Sun Bum)
This one is first for a reason. Sunscreen is so important it’s not even funny. I love spending time outdoors and when I was younger I never thought about the impact that so many hours in the sun could and will have on my skin. Thankfully my parents did though and they always lathered on the sunscreen while simultaneously instilling in me the importance of applying and reapplying throughout the day.
My go to sunscreen pick is Sun Bum. Not only do they have super cute packaging (which come on, that plays a big role in your purchase whether you like to acknowledge that or not) but it is vegan, gluten free, cruelty free, reef friendly, sulfate free, and paraben free. Bonus points for the fact that it smells AMAZING. Not only is it important to protect your skin from the sun, but it’s also important to keep in mind what you are putting on your body. A lotion full of chemicals may protect you from the sun, but will still do a load of harm in other ways. Learn more about Sun Bum!
More protection… for your eyes this time! You should absolutely be wearing sunglasses during the daylight hours because they protect against the sun’s UV rays which could otherwise lead to cataracts… leading to an increased risk of macular degeneration. Which is the leading cause of severe irreversible vision loss. Sorry, someone had to say to it. Wear your sunglasses y’all!
But enough of my preaching, because though that may be the most important reason to wear sunglasses, another reason is because they are super cute and add another element to your summer outfits. My go to are Ray Bans but honestly, there are tons of cute styles out there. Just make sure to go polarized, you’ll thank me later.
Attention all you shorties out there with me, PLATFORM SANDALS ARE IN. I have yet to get myself a pair of these but I have my eyes on a few pairs which I will share below. Comin’ in hot at 5’1″ I can certainly benefit from a heel, but sometimes I just don’t want to suffer through the pain on a hot day. Or walk through Boston twice a day for my commute. Who wants to commute in heels? Platform sandals are the perfect alternative to heels that will still give me a little height.
A statement summer bag
I am obsessed with the clear bags I see everyone with these days! Especially this one I’ve seen Viviane Audi with. I love that it has a pouch inside that gives you a bit of privacy for your belongings, but overall is still a clear purse. So cute!
I am LOVING this scrunchie trend right now and you can bet I jumped right onto that trend train. Hello nostalgia. I have this red and white striped one from Aerie and definitely plan on getting the others. Unfortunately, the three pack was out of stock when I was there, but I will get it eventually!
High waisted bikini
Light weight tops
Summer nights can get on the cool side nearing the end of the season and if you aren’t quite willing to pull out your fall clothes, you can invest in some light weight tops and sweaters to keep you warm on those late nights when it gets a little chillier. This Out From Under Jimmy Oversized Thermal Top from Urban Outfitters will be my go to for those cooler nights.
