I am a big fan of online streaming services, specifically Netflix and Hulu. Yes, I am currently springing for both, but Spotify is now running a promo where if you are a student you can get the basic Hulu plan with your Spotify subscription. #winning with this Spotify Hulu collab. (Not sure how long this will last though.)
Netflix and chill
Let’s start with everyone’s fave, Netflix. Well, my fave… I think the biggest reason I love Netflix the most is the function that enables you to download shows and movies to stream offline, which makes my commute MUCH better. Goodbye endless loading loop and hello happy commuting.
I am a big fan of a lot of the Netflix originals and think that those alone are a good reason to spring for Netflix. Which is good considering that everybody and their mother is coming out with their own service so you can say goodbye to many of your faves on Netflix pretty soon. BUT if you are a fan of their original content, I’d say it’s worth it.
A few of my faves are (including both tv-series and movies):
- Murder Mystery
- The Society
- 13 Reasons Why
- Stranger Things
- Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
- To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before
Hulu and hang
Like I mentioned above, I have Hulu because of this great promo they are doing with Spotify. I like Hulu because they have most tv shows pretty soon after they air online so if I miss something I can watch it basically the next day. I also love that they have Beverly Hills, 90210 (the og) because I have been binging that lately. and The Goldbergs. But they have SO MUCH. The only thing with Hulu is depending on your plan, you may not have access to certain shows. My plan through Spotify is the most basic so I don’t have access to everything, but I am not going to complain because at least I get my 90210.
Some of my Hulu faves:
- Beverly Hills, 90210
- The Goldbergs
- The Big Bang Theory
But Jackie, are they worth it?
In my own humble and unimportant opinion, yes they are absolutely worth it. I barely ever watch cable anymore. In fact, I only watch it at my boyfriend’s house. So while I am still a fan of cable, I use Netflix or Hulu 90% of the time. Mostly during my commute too, which is a huge lifesaver.
I do have to say that not all streaming services are created equal. If you don’t have more than a couple of shows you would watch on one service, it may not be worth it. Like I recently subscribed to HBO Now so I could watch a few shows… but honestly I’m probably wasting my money at the moment because I haven’t even used it in a few weeks. Oops. That being said, HBO Now has some GREAT content and I can’t quite convince myself to cancel it.
